LONDON (Reuters) – Britain’s finance ministry said the number of jobs covered by its wage subsidy scheme for temporarily laid-off workers rose to 8.4 million workers as of May 24, up from 8 million a week earlier.
The value of claims for wage subsidies filed by employers rose to 15 billion pounds from 11.1 billion pounds, it said.
A similar scheme for self-employed workers saw 2.3 million claims made worth 6.8 billion pounds.
