Morocco’s central bank prohibits bank dividend payments

The Central Bank of Morocco has become the latest regulator to prohibit financial firms it supervises from distributing dividends.

In a statement published on May 11, the central bank asked all credit institutions to “suspend” payments to shareholders taken from profits made in 2019.

The central bank has also asked banks to maintain “sufficient capital” to cope with the effects of the crisis and ensure they can provide funding to businesses in need.
