Regional Fed presidents signal resolve and acknowledge recession risks

The presidents of several regional Federal Reserve Banks signalled they are set on tightening monetary conditions substantially to lower demand to meet constrained supply.

Both Susan Collins of the Boston Fed and James Bullard of St Louis said unforeseen events could trigger a US recession.

Collins spoke hawkishly in her first speech as Boston Fed president on September 26. She referred to the possibility of a recession twice and maintained the importance of further economic tightening.
