Chile governor warns committee against adding mandates

The governor of the Central Bank of Chile warned a constitutional drafting committee that a full employment mandate could conflict with price stability.

Rosanna Costa appeared on April 25 before a subcommittee of the 24-member panel of experts.

The expert committee has received a proposal to alter the central bank’s mandate, backed by six of the 24 committee members. The amendment to the preliminary draft of the constitution would require the central bank to consider several new public policy
