Iran and Russia connect payments systems, governor says

Russia and Iran have connected their payment systems, allowing the US-sanctioned nations use of their currencies for commercial transactions.

Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran governor Mohammad Reza Farzin announced on July 6 that Russia’s Mir payments network was now linked to Iran’s Shetab system. The agreement was finalised at a meeting with Bank of Russia governor Elvira Nabiullina in Saint Petersburg on July 4, the Iranian governor said.
