Ethiopian governor resigns – Central Banking

Mamo Mihretu, National Bank of Ethiopia

Mamo Mihretu has resigned as governor of Ethiopia’s central bank.

In a post yesterday (September 3) on social media, Mihretu said he was leaving public service after seven years to “pursue other passions and tackle other challenges”.

During his two and a half years as head of the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), Mihretu oversaw a series of major economic reforms.

In July 2024, the NBE launched a new monetary policy framework as it sought to meet the conditions set by the International Monetary Fund
