Algeria sacks central bank governor

Salah Eddine Taleb has been dismissed as the governor of the Bank of Algeria and replaced on an interim basis by his erstwhile deputy, Moatassem Boudiaf.

The country’s president, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, made the announcement on January 4 through a statement published by the state-run Algeria Press Service. He did not provide any explanation for dismissing Taleb, who had been governor since 2022.
