Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) governor Anna Breman should have consulted the foreign ministry before signing a letter in support of US Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell, the country’s finance minister and prime minister have said.
Speaking to media today (January 19), finance minister Nicola Willis said it would have been appropriate, “as the minister of foreign affairs has said,” for Breman to take advice from across government before signing the letter on January 14.
