In February, the Bank of Korea updated the principles that guide its monetary policy and published them in English in May. The revisions were finalised ahead of governor Hyun Song Shin taking the helm in April, though the institution’s head of monetary policy communication, Juha Park, describes a fortunate coalescence between what was eventually published and Shin’s thinking about a central bank’s role in the economy.
