The government of the Netherlands has formally put forward Klaas Knot as a candidate to succeed Christine Lagarde at the helm of the European Central Bank.
Should he be appointed, Knot, who headed The Netherlands Bank (DNB) between 2011 and 2025, would be the second Dutch national to become ECB president after Wim Duisenberg, the bank’s inaugural president.
