Indonesian lawmakers approve Damayanti as BI governor

Indonesia’s parliament has approved the nomination of Destry Damayanti as the new governor of the country’s central bank, following Perry Warjiyo’s surprise resignation last month.

Indonesia’s Antara news agency reported on August 27 that Damayanti had been approved for a five-year term. Parliament also approved Solikin Juhro as deputy governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) for a five-year term, selecting the candidate over fellow nominee, M Anwar Bashori.
