BI governor resigns unexpectedly

Perry Warjiyo unexpectedly resigned as governor of Bank Indonesia on July 27, citing personal reasons. Perry’s resignation came amid concerns regarding BI’s independence following a legal change in June that required the bank to place a greater emphasis on growth; the appointment in January of Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto’s nephew as a deputy governor; and BI’s increased purchases of government bonds in September 2025.
