Journalists and politicians are the main groups that publicly criticise central banks – both constructively and otherwise – and communications teams employ a range of responses, data from the Communications Benchmarks 2025 shows.
The benchmarks this year include questions on how central banks engage with different stakeholders, and the main groups directing criticism at banks. Around three-quarters of respondents faced criticism from journalists (77.4%) and politicians (74.2%) in the past year
