Bank of Japan governor Kazuo Ueda said he had held his first meeting with Japan’s new prime minster today (November 18) and told her the bank would gradually adjust its monetary policy to guide inflation smoothly towards its 2% target.

Ueda told reporters he had had candid talks with Sanae Takaichi on developments in the economy, prices and the financial markets during their first bilateral meeting since the prime minister took office in October, according to a Reuters report. Ueda said the pair
